Position Overview
The Head of Manufacturing is a senior executive responsible for the strategic direction, operational performance, and governance of CS Gas’s manufacturing operations. Reporting to the Executive General Manager and as part of the Executive Leadership Team, this role ensures Manufacturing operates as a high-performing, scalable, and financially disciplined business unit that drives growth, profitability, and reputation.
The role has full accountability for Fabrication, Welding, Mechanical, Electrical, and Stores functions, ensuring safe, efficient, and quality-driven delivery of services. A key focus is unifying and integrating all functions, ensuring teams collaborate effectively to meet operational goals, optimise resources, and deliver strategic objectives.
Balancing strategic oversight with operational leadership, the Head of Manufacturing drives productivity, margin improvement, and cost control while maintaining uncompromising standards in Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental performance. The role ensures projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to specification, while providing commercial insight into capacity planning, capital investment, contract performance, and operational risk.
The Head of Manufacturing will:
- Lead and unify Electrical, Mechanical, Fabrication, and Stores teams, fostering collaboration, accountability, and a high-performance culture.
- Translate corporate strategy into operational plans, ensuring manufacturing operations are efficient, scalable, and aligned with CS Gas strategic goals, including growth, market expansion, and profitability.
- Drive operational excellence through process optimisation, cost control, inventory management, and continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, 5S, Value Stream Mapping, and Root Cause Analysis.
- Oversee daily operations, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to specification, while maintaining the highest standards in Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental performance.
- Support long-term financial sustainability by managing budgets, controlling operational costs, and advising on capacity planning, capital investment, and risk management.
- Promote cross-functional collaboration, knowledge transfer, and proactive problem-solving across all teams to ensure seamless project delivery and operational efficiency.
- Develop and mentor team members, identifying training needs, conducting performance reviews, and supporting succession planning to build leadership capability and technical expertise.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, employee engagement, and compliance with governance, quality, safety, and environmental standards.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Trade qualifications in Electrical, Fabrication, or Mechanical disciplines.
- Senior leadership experience in Manufacturing, Operations, or General Management, preferably in mining, construction, or industrial services.
- Strong commercial and financial acumen, including budget management, operational cost control, and capital investment.
- Experience translating strategic objectives into operational plans and measurable outcomes.
- Expertise in manufacturing systems, production workflows, and continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, 5S, Value Stream Mapping).
- Knowledge of governance, compliance, quality, and safety frameworks in industrial operations.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication, and influencing skills.
- Proficiency with ERP systems (SAP/SAP Business One preferred) and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining confidentiality, quality, and operational discipline.
Desirable
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or related discipline.
- Certification or practical experience in Lean, Six Sigma, or similar continuous improvement frameworks
